MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (WTVR) – About  500 area high school students took a  pledge Friday that could save lives.

The senior class at Cosby High School got a quick course on the dangers of texting and driving from the CBS 6 W82TEXT team, including Beat the Traffic reporter Amanda Meadows.

A recentAT&T study found while 97 percent of teenagers know texting and driving isn’t safe, 43 percent still do it.

W82TEXT is a grassroots effort aimed at spreading the word about the growing danger, especially to younger drivers. CBS 6 and Emroch and Kilduff teamed up in 2011 to raise awareness about the dangers of texting and driving. [BONUS” Click here to take the W82TEXT pledge]
