(WTVR) – More people are holding off on starting families, as they wait to bounce back from the recession.

One in five, says a recent Pew Survey, 18 to 34-year-old adults are putting off having a baby because of the recession.

A demographic intelligence report finds a million births have been postponed since the recession started with the average age for women having their first child rising from 21 to 25-years-old.

Economists say with credit card bills and student loan debts, couples have less money saved to start families, but some also say access to birth control may play a part in the declining birth rates.
