RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Widespread dense fog has formed in much of central Virginia early Friday morning as a result of clearing skies aloft, calm conditions, and recently dampened grounds after Thursday’s heavy rainfall (1″-2″ in many locations). Visibilities are plummeting to less than a half-mile in especially the southern half of the Commonwealth, with patchy dense fog elsewhere.

The fog is especially thick over the James River in Richmond and in the neighborhoods along its banks. Check out this Dominion Skytracker Camera view looking to the southwest toward the James River, where you cannot even see the River below.

Be prepared for sudden changes in your visibility. Keep your headlights on the lower beam setting, turn down the radio and limit distractions, slow down, allow extra driving distance between you and surrounding vehicles, and remain alert!
