CNN) – Russian president Vladimir Putin can now add flight leader to his credentials alongside former k-g-b agent and judo champion. But it’s not exactly how it sounds. Russian president Vladimir Putin got airborne to help a flock of Siberian cranes.

He took to the skies in a motorized glider, to help teach the rare birds how to fly south for the winter. The cranes were raised in captivity, so they couldn’t learn to migrate the natural way. Mister Putin was accompanied by a team of conservationists.

Along with flying a glider the thrill seeking Russian president enjoys judo, has hunted tigers, put a tracking collar on a polar bear and scuba dived for treasure. He will turn 60 next month but it seems age is not match for him.
