CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Police arrested a Chesterfield woman accused of leaving her young son alone inside a van parked at Walmart.

Angela S. Case, 31, is charged with child neglect.

In an email to CBS 6, Chesterfield Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Caroon wrote the child, who is less than a year old, was left unattended in a vehicle outside the Walmart on Hancock Village Street for at least 30 minutes.

The child, who was not hurt, was released to the custody of his father.

It was a muggy 87 degrees, and witness Betty Mitchell said that the skies had just opened up with a bad storm. Mitchell was on her way inside the Hancock Village Wal-Mart near Woodlake when she noticed emergency personnel surrounding the van.

"I saw fire and police and a van-at first I thought it was a handicap van," she said.

A friend of Case told CBS 6 off camera that it's all a big misunderstanding and that Case is a good mother to all seven of her kids.
