RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) – In 1984 Barack Obama was a 23-year-old college graduate on his way to law school, Apple introduced the Macintosh computer and the Democrats nominated former Vice-President Walter Mondale as the party’s presidential candidate.

More than two decades later Obama went on to become president and Apple grew into one of the most profitable companies in history. But Mondale… well… let’s just say he did not fare too well versus President Reagan in the 1984 president election.

Mondale won’t just be remembered for his historic defeat in November 1984, but also for making history by selecting Geraldine Ferraro as his vice-presidential running mate.

Here’s a report CBS 6 aired in 1984 from the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco.
