RICHMOND (WTVR) - Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones is running unopposed for a second term, but a potential candidate wants to change that.

Today a judge granted a temporary injunction after a two-hour hearing regarding Micheal Ryan's bid to run for Richmond Mayor. The injunction will stop the City Registrar from printing any ballots for the November election and allow Ryan to have his petitions reviewed. Ryan will need to show 500 signatures by Friday evening, then the City Registrar will review those signatures and make the determination whether he will be eligible to be on the ballot or not.

The judge said denying Ryan due process would cause harm and not allow public interest in the competitive process of the election.

He was disqualified by the State Board of Elections, and challenged the ruling with a lawsuit.  Attorney's for the City registrar pointed out that the law was followed, and there is no appeals process for a candidate running for public office.
