(CBS News) - President Barack Obama went to Iowa, the state which four years ago propelled him to to the White House.

He mocked what was said at the Republican National Convention.

"Let me recap it for you.  Everything is bad.  It's Obama's fault, and Governor Romney is the only one who knows the secret to creating jobs and growing the economy."

He told the crowd there's more work to do when it comes to jobs, energy and education.

"We have got more doors of opportunity to open every single American who is willing to work hard and work through them."

As the President created momentum, Mitt Romney tried to maintain the positive jolt he got from the GOP Convention.

In battleground state of Ohio, he used the kickoff of the college football season to go after the President over jobs.

He said 23-million people are either out of work or underemployed.

"If you have a coach that's zero and 23 million, you say it's time to get a new job."

He promised he and running mate Paul Ryan would establish jobs in this ailing economy.

"Paul Ryan and I have a plan that is going to get America working again," Romney says. "It's going to create about 12 million new jobs in America."

While the President's supporters chanted in hopes of four more years, the Republicans insist that's four years this country can't afford.
