STUDY: Eating chocolate could help men lower their stroke risks

(WTVR) – A new study finds the natural ingredients found in chocolate may prevent stroke in men.
A Swedish study looked at more than 37,000 men and found those who
regularly ate about a third of a cup of chocolate a week lowered their risk of stroke by 20 percent.

The benefits may be related to the natural flavanoids in chocolate, which
appear to have antioxidant, anti-clotting, and anti-inflammatory properties. They can also decrease bad cholesterol and lower blood pressure.

“I think the health benefits in moderation outweigh the extra calories,” said Dr. Louis Teichholz of Hackensack University Medical Center.

Unlike other research touting the benefits of dark chocolate, the Swedish men ate mostly milk chocolate.
