In Louisiana today, the National Guard arrived by boat to help an elderly man escape as flood waters raged up to his roof.

The water came up so quickly, a reporter said, that there was nothing he could do.

Guardsman chipped away at an air vent with an axe, to help him escape.

The reporter said that the stark difference between Hurricane Isaac (now a Tropical Storm) and Hurricane Katrina is that rescuers are helping save pets this time. Many pets were abandoned during Katrina.

Although the man wasn't thrilled at losing another home, the reporter said he was able to crack some jokes. The man was clearly wounded and he was also upset to lose a home seven years to the day he lost his last one.

He did leave during Katrina, but chose to ignore the mandatory evacuation order that was issued on Monday.
