Richmond, Va. (WTVR)—A jury has found a Richmond man guilty of the fatal shooting of two brothers, in a dispute over dog excrement, and has recommended sentencing of 46 years to life.

Darryl Lamont Jefferson was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder times and two counts of possession of a firearm during a murder that happened April 18, at the Tobacco Factory apartments in the 700 block of Stockton Street in South Richmond.

Brothers Ahmad K. Phillips, 24, and Ahkeem K. Phillips, 28, both of Richmond died after an altercation over dog feces in the hallway. The dog was owned by Randy Trent, Jefferson’s friend.

A fight broke out between the four men and then shot were fired. Akheem Phillips died on the scene and Ahmad Phillips died the next morning at VCU Medical Center.

Jefferson faced a minimum of 40 years for the convictions. The jury deliberated barely an hour over his sentencing.

Trent faces the same charges as Jefferson and his trial will be in October.
