CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Co. (WTVR)–When one climber left his dog behind on a lonely peak, a group of complete strangers went up to save her, and now the dog’s owner now faces criminal charges.

Missy, after 8 days at an altitude of 13,000 plus feet, is expected to survive. Now there seems to be a custody battle brewing over the dog, between those that rescued her, and the owner that left her on the mountain.

Sergeant Rick Safe with the Clear Creek Sheriff’s Department said that if the group of people had not made the 9-hour round-trip hike to save the dog, Missy, she likely would have died.

Safe also said that the owner didn’t do much to try and safe Missy, and that’s why he is being charged with animal cruelty.
