(WTVR) – More Americans are making marathon commutes to work.

USA Today reports a new study from New York University finds the number of “super commuters” traveling at least 90 miles to get to work grew by 2.1 percent between 2009 and 2010.

According to researchers, the economy is the driving force behind the long distance trend, with the instability of the housing market making it harder to sell or buy in some regions.

Some commuters surveyed said uncertainty about whether their jobs would last long-term is a reason they haven’t uprooted their families and moved to where jobs are located.
