(WTVR) - The world's toughest anti-tobacco marketing laws have been passed by Australia's highest court today.

The new law means starting in December, Tobacco companies will have to get rid of fancy designs and logos.

Tobacco products must be displayed in dull, uniform packaging and have graphic health warnings.

Tobacco giants unsuccessfully argued the law infringed their intellectual property rights.

They also warn cheap counter fit cigarettes will flood the market.

The government is till facing other legal challenges.

Some are claiming the government breached international trade rules which could result in huge compensation payouts.

International tobacco companies including Phillip Morris are worried this will set a global precedent.
