NEW KENT, VA. (WTVR)--The New Kent County Board of Supervisors met behind closed doors for about an hour to discuss possible candidates to fill the several recently vacated positions; departures within the past month through either resignation or termination.

It all started with New Kent Fire Chief, Tommy Hicks, who was fired after a brief suspension and investigation.

Hicks' wife Darla, the County's Human Resources Director, resigned shortly after, as did the county administrator who fired Hicks--Cabell Lawton.

The resignations didn't end.  Fire Marshal, James Trice also quit and a position was vacated in the Social Services Department.

After their closed door meeting, board members still wouldn't explain why the fire chief's job was extinguished.

They were also mum about the reason four other people resigned following. “I really don't have a comment right now,” said board members.

We then went down the line to the county's acting administrator who also had no explanation, but says, ‘you shouldn’t be worried.’
