A big explosion leveled a Long Island home and left a baby dead, and at least fourteen people injured.

Several people were trapped inside after the explosion, including an 18-month-old baby.

A total of 11 people, including three first responders, were taken to the hospital. Newsday in Long Island reports that witnesses saw a baby pulled from the rubble and placed into a cop car that sped off, the officer shouting, “We don’t have time to wait for an ambulance.”

Officials said they think gas was the cause of the explosion.

Newsday reports that the house is not supplied with natural gas, though two 200-pound propane tanks were on the property.

At least ten area fire departments joined in the effort. The explosion caused damage as far away as three homes on either side.

This is a developing story and we will post more information as it becomes available.
