After 26 years on the job, Robert “Mike” Berry, general manager of the Richmond Metropolitan Authority (RMA), has announced his intention to retire from the organization later this year.

In a press release, Berry says he want to spend more time with his wife and family as well as at the beach and on the golf course.

The RMA board of directors has appointed a special personnel committee to make a recommendation on his Berry’s successor. They say that should happen within the next several months.

The RMA owns and operates toll facilities, parking decks and The Diamond baseball stadium in central Virginia. They also operate Main Street Station, a National Historic Landmark owned by the City of Richmond.

Berry joined the RMA in 1986 as general manager. He has more than 40 years of experience in the transportation and land use industries. His prior experience includes service as the assistant director of planning for Henrico County, Va. He is a former board member of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association, a member of the Richmond Metropolitan Planning Organization, and is a member of the Leadership Metro Richmond Class of 1984.
