(CNN) – While President Barack Obama campaigns in the swing state of Iowa next week, Vice President Biden will stump in two other battleground states.

The Obama re-election campaign announced Wednesday that Biden will campaign Monday in North Carolina and Tuesday and Wednesday in Virginia. Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney stumps by bus in those two states this weekend.

Four years ago Obama and Biden became the first Democratic ticket to carry Virginia since 1964. According to a Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times poll released Wednesday, 49% of likely voters in Virginia say they support the president, with 45% backing Romney, the former Massachusetts governor. Obama’s four point edge is within the survey’s sampling error.

In North Carolina, an NBC News/Marist poll conducted in late June indicated the race all knotted up. Obama and Biden also carried North Carolina four years ago, the first Democratic ticket to take the state since 1976.

Mitt Romney will swing through the Commonwealth, and stop in Ashland, on Saturday.
