Twitter gauges public opinion of presidential candidates

(WTVR) - There is a new way to measure the country's feelings on the Presidential candidates was announced by social media company Twitter this week.

The company is billing the feature as Twindex, or a political index based on tweets people send out on the candidates. Twitter teamed up with Topsy, a data analysis company, and two polling companies to create the index.

Buzzfeed.com reports the index compares tweets about the candidates to the positivity and negativity of all tweets on all topics.

The index will be updated each night at 8 p.m. to reflect the daily views of candidates.
