RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Usually he helps celebrate the birthdays of people turning 100, but Wednesday night, Willard Scott was on hand to mark the 200th birthday of Virginia’s Executive Mansion.

The first family of the Commonwealth welcomed Scott as part of the Bicentennial Eve Gala. As guests arrived, they were escorted to the mansion on horse and carriage while being welcomed by the music of the Colonial Williamsburg’s Fife and Drum Band.

Scott was also given the Governor and First Lady’s first Icon of the Old Dominion award, as was author David Baldacci. Those two were selected because the first family felt they do a good job telling the ongoing story of Virginia’s history.

A book about the Executive Mansion is expected to be released this fall.
