RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) -- Police are on the hunt for several suspects after they drove through a red light and then took police on a high-speed pursuit on Richmond's south side.  The chase started on North 7th Street, near J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College around 12:30 a.m.

A Virginia State Trooper noticed a motorist driving without headlights overnight.  Police said as the trooper tried pulling the car over, the driver took off, ran a red light and eventually made his way to Interstate 95 driving in excess of 100 mph.  Detectives said the driver got off the interstate at Bruce Street and Glenfield Avenue, lost control of the car and crashed.

"Due to the speed, the suspects vehicle was unable to make the curb, ran over the corner and hit a pole," said Sgt. Lee Elliott with Virginia State Police.  "At the time the trooper was going slower to keep his car under control and watched the suspects run away."

Detectives said there were four, possibly five young black men inside the car--which has been confirmed as stolen.

A K9 unit was called out to the scene at Bruce Street and Glenfield Avenue, because police believe the suspects are still hiding out somewhere near the Hillside Court public housing.
