YORK COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - A 10-foot Burmese python that went missing earlier this month in York County is back home.

York County officials said Pepper the snake was found alive Monday afternoon coiled up in the side yard of the property. That's the area near where she originally disappeared.

Animal Control officers secured the snake, which was described as being in good condition, and she was reunited with her owner.

WTKR-TV said the snake’s owner, Scott Butz, spotted the reptile coming out from under a trailer around 1 p.m. Monday in the same neighborhood where she was last seen.

Butz said his two snakes, which live inside the mobile dwelling, were being cared for by the man who rents the trailer as a condition of his rent.

Police said they are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. Officials still don’t know if Pepper slithered off on her own or if something else happened.

After Pepper disappeared, officials were investigating whether she simply escaped or might have been sold.
