WEATHER: Strong storms likely in Virginia Monday and Tuesday

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are likely in Virginia Monday and Tuesday in the afternoons and evenings. Summer heat and humidity will serve as fuel for storm development, aided by upper-level disturbances swinging over the Mid-Atlantic. The jet stream remains to our north, and as disturbances follow that fast-moving air aloft like a highway, they can trigger complexes of storms that produce damaging winds, frequent lightning, heavy rain, and some hail. Sometimes these complexes, as we’ve become well-aware in Virginia this particular Summer, can be long-lived from state to state, producing widespread wind damage. By Tuesday, that threat remains in central Virginia as a weak surface cold front tries to slide south toward us:
