AURORA, Colorado (KDVR) - From his hospital bed at the Medical Center of Aurora, Stephen Barton describes what happened at the movie theater and how he was shot in the neck.

The 22-year-old from Connecticut is biking across the country and had rolled into town just in time to hit the movie theater. He says he saw a canister fly across the screen and saw a few flashes, but initially thought it was a prank.  Then he was shot, and realized what was happening.

“People started screaming and there was a lot of chaos, and I ducked down,” Barton said.

When the shooting stopped, Stephen ran outside.  He found a police officer who drove him to the hospital.

Barton underwent surgery, and is doing better.  His parents flew to Colorado to be with him
