RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) - The city auditor unveiled a new tool to help him identify and eliminate fraud and waste among Richmond's city departments and employees -- a smart phone app.

The "Fraud Squad" app allows users to anonymously report what they view as waste of taxpayer money.

"You can send reports, pictures and videos to us," said Richmond City Auditor Umesh Dilal. "This will help us tremendously while investigating fraud or abuse. This will ultimately saves citizens some money."

The app can do more than save tax payer money, it can actually earn you cash as well.

Anyone who sends in a tip that leads to the city recovering or saving $5,000 or more during one year becomes eligible for a reward. The reward equals 10% of the money recovered up to $5,000.

You can send in reports via the app, through the Fraud Squad website, or you can phone them in to (804) 646-5697.

Dilal said his office plans to investigate every report made to his office.
