RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Many of you snapped great pictures of the shelf cloud and other clouds associated with a heavy thunderstorm approaching Richmond Sunday evening around 7 p.m. CLICK HERE to see the photo gallery of those pictures. Meanwhile, Meteorologist Carrie Rose was winding down for bed and saw the approaching shelf cloud to the west. Unable to resist the urge to take iPhone video, and willing to sacrifice a little sleep, she shot these videos showing the structure of the shelf cloud.

Carrie explained what a shelf cloud is during the CBS 6 Morning Newscast Monday, which you can watch here:

Here is another video taken of the shelf cloud a little west of Richmond at the James River campus of the Country Club of Virginia. This iPhone video was shot at approximately 6:45 p.m. Sunday by Carrie's fiancé, Jason Pace.

Stay with CBS 6, we'll keep you ahead of the storm.
