CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Twenty five people were suspended hundreds of feet in the air for almost three hours when the Windseeker ride at Carowinds malfunctioned Saturday.

WSOC reported that a safety brake caused the 301-foot ride to stop working around 10 a.m. No injuries were reported.

It’s not the first time this summer Carowinds crews have had to address safety hazards.

Crews had to replace a deck and stairs on several water slides when a structural engineer found problems in May.

A Carowinds spokesman said in a statement, “Safety is Carowinds’ top priority and we are committed to the protection of all our guests. All of our rides are inspected daily before they are permitted to open to the public.”

Some customers said they’ll avoid the ride from now on.

“I’m definitely going to let my son know, so he’s aware not to go on that ride anymore,” said Shonn Hudson, who gave his 15-year-old son a season pass for his birthday.

The Windseeker is expected to reopen sometime Sunday, after mechanics perform another round of safety checks.
