Teenagers charged with 100+ crimes

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WTVR) - Police arrested eight teenagers accused of breaking into and stealing from stores and cars in Chesterfield and Colonial Heights.

Colonial Heights Police said the suspects caused $2,000 in damages and stole $4,000 worth of merchandise from convenience stores in Colonial Heights during the May/June crime spree.

The teens face 65 criminal charges in Colonial Heights including breaking and entering, grand larceny, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools and wearing a mask in public.

Sgt. George Burgess with Chesterfield County called it "one of the largest crime sprees I've ever seen involving this many young people."

Burgess said the teens stole and damaged $40,000 dollars worth of property in Chesterfield where they face 57 charges including petit larceny, grand larceny, arson, conspiracy to commit a felony and vandalism. The 16 incidents they're connected to in Chesterfield happened from May 21 to June 28, police said.

Authorities said those crimes happened at the Stoney Glen West, Arbor Landing, Ashton Dell, Harrowgate Meadows, Somerset, Harrowgate Place and Greenbriar subdivisions. The teens allegedly also hit the River Forest Apartments and Garden Springs Apartments.

Chesterfield police said two 17-year-old males and a 13-year-old male were charged, as well as five adults, in connection to the crimes. The charged adults are:

  • Jason Brannon, 19, of Chester
  • Justin Deford, 18, of Chester
  • James W. King Jr., 19, of Chester
  • Chelsea Netzley, 19, of Chester
  • Tyler Wallace, 19, of Chester

The suspects are due in court  August 1 for a preliminary hearing.
