“Our most saddening and sobering finding is the total disregard for the safety and welfare of Sandusky’s child victims by the most senior leaders at Penn State,” Freeh wrote.

“The most powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children who Sandusky victimized.”

CNN reports that the The Penn State Board of Trustees is scheduled to hold a 3:30 p.m. news conference Thursday afternoon at regarding the internal review into the child sex scandal that has tarnished the university. [BONUS: Key passages from Penn State internal review report]

“We want to ensure we are giving the report careful scrutiny and consideration before making any announcements or recommendations,” the board said in a written statement Thursday.

Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, was convicted in June on 45 of 48 counts related to sexual abuse of boys. He will likely spend the rest of his life in jail.
