RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – An inmate with tuberculosis prompted a lockdown Thursday at the Richmond City Jail.

Major Jerry Baldwin tells CBS 6 that the lockdown began at 10:30 a.m. after VCU Medical Center staff alerted Sheriff C.T. Woody that an inmate with tuberculosis (TB) had been brought to the jail.

As a result, Woody ordered a halt to all jail movements until medical staff could assess the situation.

Some members from the Richmond Health Department were called in to help jail medical staff.

Baldwin said Woody is waiting for a report from the medical staff, but said no other TB cases have been confirmed.

Accordingly, normal operations resumed around 1:20 p.m. at the jail.
