FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WTVR) – More than 8,000 Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) customers lost power when severe storms struck the Frederickburg area Sunday. REC reported that by 7:00 a.m. Monday, all but 180 customers remained without power.

“We had broken poles and a lot of tree damage,” said Rhonda F. Curtis, REC’s manager of cooperative communications said in a press stastement. “These storms were sudden and intense, causing a lot of wind damage in the areas they moved through.  Crews worked through the night to restore power and will continue to do so until all power is restored.”

REC said most of the outages occurred in Culpeper, Essex, King William and King and Queen Counties.
