RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Are you getting enough Vitamin D? A new study says people over 65 could benefit from high doses of the supplement.

The Food and Nutrition Board, which sets guidelines for the daily allowances you see on packages of food, says people over 70 should consume 800 international units of Vitamin D a day. This will not only lower the risk of hip fractures by 30%, it also lowers other bone fractures by 14%. Taking less has no effect.

Previous studies of Vitamin D supplements have returned mixed results. You can get Vitamin D naturally from sunlight and some green vegetables.
