DEQ says no bacteria found after James River sewage spill

An update on a massive sewage spill into the James River.

The city of Lynchburg tested the James at two sites after 2.6 million gallons of partially treated sewage was released from a treatment facility after Friday’s storm [Read more about the spill, here].

The Department of Environmental Quality said a test Tuesday did not show any bacterial contamination.

It says the sewage that was already chlorinated, was diluted when it hit the water.

The DEQ says it will not do any additional testing.
