Chatham, Ma. (WTVR)–A Cape Cod harbormaster has warned swimmers to stay away after great white sharks were spotted near the shore.

The sharks have taken up refuge around Chatham’s eastern shoreline. Apparently, the great whites are feeding on seals living along North Beach, on Monomoy Island.

No shark attacks have been reported, but a scientist told Time magazine that he has seen shark bites on the seals.

The holidays are expected to bring many out to the shores. Remember (cue Jaws themesong) that the famous flick was filmed mostly in Massachusetts, at Martha’s Vineyard.

Beachgoers are being told to be alert if they do venture into the water, and to stay 300 feet away from seals. Despite the sightings the beaches remain open. Swimmers are warned not to swim at dusk.
