RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) recently launched a website and video that highlights Virginia’s new DUI law.
The “Don’t Blow It” campaign aims to let Virginia drivers know that under new state law, drivers convicted of DUI will have to use an ignition interlock device — even after their first DUI conviction. The new law went into effect July 1.
“An ignition interlock is a breath test device linked to a vehicle’s ignition system which prevents the vehicle from starting if the driver’s blood alcohol content is over .02 percent. An ignition interlock device does not prevent offenders from going to and from work; nor will it interfere with their being able to be productive members of society,” said Chris Konschak, Manager at MADD Virginia, in an emailed statement.
