RICHMOND, Va.  (WTVR)  –  Richmond – The Virginia Board of Contractors revoked the licenses of 17 businesses at its meeting Tuesday, July 31, including two businesses owned by Stephen and Angela Mills of Chesterfield County.

The couple was fined $33,000 earlier this year for improperly installing whole-home generators in nearly three dozen homes in Chesterfield and Henrico Counties.

According to the website of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation,  Virginia Air Mechanical and Superior Mechanical Service are among the 17 businesses which had their license revoked. Chesterfield County authorities accused the Mills’ of improperly installing gas-fired, whole-home backup generators, gas furnaces and heat pumps.  They plead no contest to 33 building code violations, essentially admitting there was enough evidence to find them guilty.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - A Chesterfield County couple is being fined $33,000 for improperly installing whole-home generators in nearly three dozen area homes.

Stephen and Angela Mills are accused of putting a number of families at risk in homes in Chesterfield and Henrico Counties.  They received that fine today in a Chesterfield courtroom, but the judge also told them they won't have to pay it if they can make things right in 90 days.

The judge gave them more time even though prosecutors are upset the couple hasn't done a whole lot to fix those problems since they were busted last year.  What swayed the judge was a contract the Mills' have with a separate, licensed company to come in and fix all the problems with the generators.

Stephen and Angela Mills are co-owners of Virginia Air Mechanical and Superior Mechanical Service.  Chesterfield County authorities accused them of improperly installing gas-fired, whole-home backup generators, gas furnaces and heat pumps.  They plead no contest to 33 building code violations, essentially admitting there was enough evidence to find them guilty.

The couple was supposed to have all the problems at homes fixed by today in Chesterfield, but with the help of that company they hired, they just finished repairing problems at over a dozen homes in Henrico.  The Mills are facing charges there after inspectors found jobs were completed without permits and without inspections, along with code violations.

While leaving the Chesterfield County Courthouse this morning, the couple told CBS 6’s Shelby Brown that they feel bad for the homeowners, but wouldn't make any other comment.
