UPDATE: A family friend has told WGHP in Greensboro, N.C. that Andy Griffith has died.

DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVR) – Members of the Dare County Sheriff’s office have confirmed to CBS 6 that emergency crews responded to Andy Griffith’s North Carolina home this morning.

Officials have not yet confirmed to CBS 6 the condition of Mr. Griffith nor anyone else who may be in the home.

WITN.com is reporting Griffith has passed away. The North Carolina station cited Griffith’s friend and former UNC President Bill Friday in the report.

The 86-year-old actor stared in “The Andy Griffith Show” from 1960 – 1968. In 1986 the North Carolina native stared in “Matlock.” Griffith played lawyer Benjamin Matlock until 1995.
