RICHMOND, VA (WTVR) – Of course the main thing on everyone’s weekend radar is the opening of the new Huguenot Bridge on Saturday. However, don’t expect delay free conditions and smooth sailing right off the bat. Commuter will have to get used to the new change in the traffic pattern and crews will still be working through 2013.

Here’s the details: The Huguenot Bridge will be completely closed down at 10pm Friday. This closure will last until the new bridge is opened Saturday morning at 10am. At this time the first section of the new bridge will be open to traffic. Crews will continue work over the next year on demolishing the old bridge and opening the second section of the new bridge in the Summer of 2013.

You can also expect delays on Huguenot Bridge Sunday for a special event. VDOT will close the old bridge to vehicles and open up the bridge to pedestrians. You can come take pictures, walk the old bridge or bring a picnic. To avoid the area us the Willey Bridge instead.
