CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WCAV) - Even after the reinstatement of ousted University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan earlier this week, one professor says he is still resigning.
Bill Wulf, a longtime computer science professor who resigned last week, told WCAV's Chris Stover Thursday that he is not changing his mind about leaving the school.
"I'm just delighted they reinstated her," said Wulf. "There is still the potential for damage. We still need to make some more changes."
In fact, Wulf said the main reason he is still resigning is that he wants to see changes on the Board of Visitors. In particular, Wulf said he wants rector Helen Dragas to resign.
"This top-down, command and control model she has in her head is just profoundly wrong," said Wulf.
Even though the board backtracked on its initial decision, Wulf said he does not have faith in their decision-making ability and wants to see more academics on the board. He likened the situation to creating a board at General Motors made up of all academics. He said that would be a disaster, too.
"They have just demonstrated they do not know how to govern a university, and having made one dumb decision, they're going to make more dumb decisions," said Wulf.
He added that he does not think the members of the Board of Visitors are bad people, but that "they simply don't understand."
Wulf said he is proud of his nearly five decades at the university and that plans to stay involved.
