RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) The two men convicted in a deadly, convenience store robbery caught on surveillance video learned their fate today in federal court.

Stephen White was sentenced to 40 years in prison and William Langley Junior received a sentence of life in prison.

Both were charged in the shooting death of Robert Rush, a store clerk who was killed during a robbery at an Uppy’s convenience store on Brook Road in May of 2005.

On May 4, 2005, 53-year-old Robert Rush was the clerk on duty when White robbed the store. Rush gave White the cash, but White killed Rush anyway.

White and Langley were at one point eligible for the death penalty, but Rush’s daughter, Angela Rush, agreed with prosecutors to pursue a life sentence for both of them.

Both men were charged with armed robbery which resulted in death– a death penalty eligible crime under federal law.

The lawyers, with Angela’s consultation, agreed to a plea in exchange for life in prison.

“Death is pretty much over and done with,” said Angela. “With this they have to think about what they did for the rest of their lives.”
