(WTVR) – Officials say jellyfish are thriving even as Chesapeake Bay waters get more polluted.

Some of the pesky beach bummers are already in the bay and rivers, but you’ll soon see more of them.

But there’s a new way to know for sure before taking a dip.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has put ten buoys in the Chesapeake Bay to measure the salinity and temperature of the water. Those conditions will let  you whether there’s a high concentration of jellyfish.

Their numbers are expected to be higher than normal because of warmer water.
