(WTVR) – Is your favorite beach clean and free of dangerous bacteria?
The Natural Resources Defense Council’s annual assessment report said 2011 was one of the worst years on record for bacterial contamination from storm water runoff and sewage.
Out of thousands of beaches surveyed in 30 states, Virginia’s shorelines ranked the sixth best in the nation. [Click here to see the list]
Generally the state tests its beaches once a week. The closest beach to Virginia that received the highest rating is Maryland’s Ocean Beach.
No east coast beach made the worst list.
