WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVR) – The Virginia governor indicated on Tuesday that he might be a Mitt Romney consideration for vice president.

Gov. Bob McDonnell spent the past weekend at a Romney retreat. WTOP reports that McDonnell, during today’s interview, strayed from his usual response that “he is not actively seeking the position,” to no comment.

WTOP reports that McDonnell said he would not comment now that Romney is openly vetting candidates.

“I’m not discussing the vice presidential vetting process,” McDonnell said to WTOP.”You can address those questions to the Romney campaign.”

WTOP reports that the change in tone indicates he might soon become one of the other public figures Romney is now openly vetting for the position.

In April, McDonnell said he would be open to accepting the position of running mate, if asked. “Anybody who asks me to help the party or help the ticket in some way so we can get Mitt Romney elected, you know I’m willing to consider doing,” McDonnell previously said.

McDonnell, however, has also said in the past that he planned to finish out his term as governor.

“If the nominee comes, of course you consider it,” McDonnell said, adding he is not proactively “looking for” or “asking for” the position, reported WTOP.
