(WTVR) — A new study by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University says that only one in ten people who suffer from addiction are actually treated.

However, most people with high blood pressure or diabetes are treated. The study estimates that approximately 40 million Americans over the age of 12 suffer from some form of addiction.

For even more insight, the study says that the United States spent $44 billion to treat diabetes affecting 26 million people, over $100 billion is used to treat heart condition affecting 27 million people.

While in 2010, only $28 billion was spent to treat the 40 million Americans with addiction.
