RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Here is the initial wave of severe reports coming into the various emergency responders, including wind damage (primarily trees snapped or uprooted), large hail up to golf ball size, and flooding in urban areas as torrential downpours inundated the drainage system. The severe thunderstorm that produced this widespread swath of significant wind damage essentially hugged along the I-64 corridor, cutting through Richmond just clipping downtown Richmond and the Richmond International Airport. Although the storm did not directly hit RIC, wind gusts were recorded up to 60 mph from that severe thunderstorm as it passed over Highland Springs.

Each of these icons are as follows:
White hail stones in the pink box
Tree damage in the yellow and green box
Winds recorded by either trained spotters or ASOS sites in the yellow box

A tornado has not been confirmed yet in central Virginia from this event yet, but the thunderstorm did have a Tornado Warning on it as it approached Short Pump and the Metro Richmond area this afternoon beginning at 2:44 p.m. and ending at 3:11 p.m. Here is the view of that warning as the storm barreled down upon Richmond, along with the subsequent wind damage reports plotted:

Here is the broader view of the severe reports from that one storm:
