SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Virginia State Police are investigating a bizarre fatal accident in Sussex County where a pedestrian was killed.

It happened around 1:45 a.m. Thursday, on Route 460 near the intersection of Route 614, when a semi traveling eastbound spotted a man standing in the road.

As a result, the driver swerved into the westbound lane to avoid hitting the man. That’s when police said the man apparently jumped in front of the semi.

The tractor-trailer struck the man and moments later the victim was hit by a second vehicle that did not stop.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the tractor-trailer.

Officials are still trying to identify the driver of the second vehicle.

No information has been released about the pedestrian.

Later in the day, another deadly accident involving two semis occurred on Route 460 in Prince George County. [READ: Deadly accident closes Route 460]
