Richmond, Va. (WTVR)--They protect and serve the Richmond community.

But some Richmond police officers are wondering if the Mayor and his administration are looking out for them, when it comes to their paychecks.

"There's a fair number of people that are sitting on pins and needles waiting to find out if in fact they've ever going to get promoted,” said Stacy Rogers, President, Richmond Coalition of police.

Last week, officers were gearing up for their promotions.

"The promotion process was going to be Friday, June 15th.  The Honor guard had been notified to be there,” said Rogers.

But according to the Richmond Coalition of Police, the never happened.

"The Chief has passed along to some of the people who were going to be promoted that the list has been sent downtown for approval.”

Stacy Rogers tells CBS 6, those impacted officers spent six months going through the interviewing process...only to find out now the promotions may not happen.

He says Chief Bryan Norwood told the rank and file, the ceremony has been cancelled indefinitely.

"He doesn`t know what the hold up is right now,” said Rogers,  “everything has been done correctly.  Everything has been sent. "

CBS 6 asked Rogers, does he think the hold up on the police promotions are politically motivated?

"I deal with the Chief on a pretty regular basis.  And he seems to be a pretty honest guy to me.  And he's never told me anything that I found out later not to be true,” said Rogers.

We tried to reach out to Chief Bryan Norwood for a response.  But he hasn’t returned our calls or emails.

We reached to Mayor Dwight Jones and Chief Administrative Officer, Byron Marshall, who oversees the police department.

Neither responded.  But the Mayor’s Press secretary, Tammy Hawley, sent CBS 6 a statement saying “Departmental promotions are a personnel matter and the review of RPD promotions will not be commented on.”
