MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (WTVR) – Nearly 300 years after coal mining started in Midlothian, a park is making sure the area’s history is not forgotten.

Mid-Lothian Mines Parkerected a 35-foot headstock reproduction this week to honor the area’s coal-mining past. The headstock is a replica of the wooden support structure used on top of coal mines in the 18th century.

The headstock is part of a 450-seat outdoor amphitheater planned to open in Chesterfield later this fall.
