Richmond cops search for bank robbery suspect

RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) - Richmond police are actively searching for a man who held up a Gateway Bank and Trust branch in the West End Wednesday morning.

Officials said a man entered the bank on the 5200 block of Patterson Avenue shortly before 10 a.m., and handed a teller a note, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash on foot.

The robber was not armed, and no one was injured. 

Police released surveillance photos of the suspect and described him as a white male, age 55 to 60, who was last seen wearing glasses, a bucket hat, a khaki shirt and blue jeans. He is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. 

Police cars were out patrolling the area. CBS6 watched as officers approached and questioned a man.

The man told a CBS 6 reporter officers told him he fit the description of the man that robbed the bank. He added that they said the robber was wearing a white T-shirt. The man was not detained as police told him he was not a suspect.
