I have two 100-lb yellow labs who occasionally think the middle of the night is a good time to demand a stroll around the yard, and early this morning seemed to fit the bill for them. It’s as if they know that our three children are in a deep sleep, and now is their time for my complete and undivided attention. They roused me out of bed at 3:52 this morning with a rude hybrid of a bark and a yelp, and I found myself a minute later standing out in the yard in a sleepy stupor and a little too under-dressed for the city limits.  Looking to the east, I could barely perceive a little glow on the horizon, a sign that the longest days of the year are upon us.  Sunrise for today’s date is 5:48 AM, with sunset at 8:28 PM.  The longest day of the year (the Summer Solstice) is June 20th.  Summer officially begins on this day, with 14 hours, 45 minutes, and 28 seconds of daylight.  ‘Tis the season for days at the pool, late evening walks, cookouts, fireflies (and mosquitoes), pop-up thunderstorms, and the occasional short night of sleep. -Zach
